Tips to Avoid Hearing Aid Mishaps

According to the World Health Organization, “Currently more than 1.5 billion people (nearly 20% of the global population) live with hearing loss.” If you experience this condition, and you’re among the population who wears hearing aids, you may be wondering how to make them last as long as possible. The key to doing so is to avoid mishaps and accidents. We review how to do this below.

Whenever your hearing aids are not in your ears, they should be put in a hard-shell carrying case. If your hearing aids didn’t come with one or they did but it was misplaced, be sure to buy one at Herold’s Pharmacy West Ashley in Charleston. This can protect your hearing aids against loss, drops and spills.

Keep Them Somewhere Consistent

When you’re at home and you take your hearing aids out to put them in their carrying case, be sure to put this somewhere consistent, like on a bedside table or in a drawer. When you’re traveling, however, you should put them in your suitcase so they aren’t accidentally left behind.

Don’t Store Them in the Bathroom

You probably do a lot of your morning routine in the bathroom, but it’s important not to store your hearing aids in this room. Not only is it too humid, but there are also too many hard, wet surfaces that they could be dropped onto or into.

Put Them Above Ground Level

When choosing a place to keep your hearing aids, make sure they’re above ground level, or else they could get stepped on.

Keep Them Away from Pets

Pets and hearing aids can be extremely dangerous for one another. If you have pets, keep your hearing aids out of reach from them. Consider putting them on a tall dresser or inside a drawer. Also, going back to a previous point, if you keep them in a consistent place, you can know right away if they’ve gone missing because your pet ate them. Then you can seek emergency medical care for them right away.
